Mount Maunganui: Mohammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf totally changed the match scenario after the Pakistani top-order collapsed on Day 3, batting coach Younis Khan praised the duo during the post-day conference.
Speaking to reporters, Khan said both the batters took responsibility and scored worthy runs for Pakistan which was a good sign moving ahead. “Unfortunately, we lost Shan Masoof the other day otherwise the situation on Day 3 could have been different had two set batsmen resumed the fresh Day,” he said.
“But, Rizwan and Faheem batted really well to support Pakistan and somewhere changed the whole scenario,” he added.
“A couple of small partnerships in the start could have benefited us as New Zealand did to get to 431. But, one thing should be noted here that our batters spent time at the crease,” he reiterated.
Talking about Faheem’s inning, Khan said he has the potential to become a good bowling all-rounder. “There is a lot of improvement in Faheem’s performance and he can become a good bowling all-rounder if he continues working hard,” he said.
The batting coach also praised Rizwan who took responsibility as skipper and senior player. “Rizwan possessed maturity and he looked different today. When you score runs as a skipper, you gain immense confidence, so does Rizwan today,” he concluded.
