Hurricanes star's freakish catch stuns BBL fans

The Brisbane Heat have survived a staggering middle-order collapse to secure a four-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes in a pulsating BBL clash.

Set 149 to win by the Hurricanes, Brisbane's opening pair of Max Bryant and Sam Heazlett put on 73 inside six overs for the first wicket, before a wicked batting collapse.

The collapse was inspired by Hurricanes opening batsman D'Arcy Short, who finished with figures of 3-18 off his four overs, including a stunning caught and bowled effort.

Having already picked up two wickets, Short picked up his third when Heat batsman Tom Cooper smacked a delivery back at him with such force that it left the umpire ducking for cover.

However, Short stuck out his left hand and not only saved a boundary, but managed to catch the ball, leaving both the batsman and the umpire stunned.

The wicket came as a part of a collapse which saw the Heat lose an incredible 6-29 in the middle of their batting innings.

After the collapse threatened to derail the Heat's chances, skipper Jimmy Peirson (16 off 15) and James Bazley (31 off 19) combined for an unbeaten 50-run partnership.

Earlier, the Heat's bowling efforts were led by Englishman Lewis Gregory, who finished with figures of 3-22, including the key wicket of countryman Dawid Malan.
