Cricket star labelled 'a disgrace' hits back

Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin has spoken publicly about his run-in with Eoin Morgan following a controversial incident in the IPL, insisting that he did nothing wrong.

Ashwin and Morgan had to be separated when the Indian star was dismissed in an IPL match earlier this week, the anger coming from when Ashwin called teammate Rishabh Pant through for an extra run after the ball had deflected off Pant during a run out attempt.

Morgan called Ashwin a "disgrace" over the incident, which the Indian star took issue with.

"I turned to run the moment I saw the fielder throw and dint [sic] know the ball had hit Rishabh," Ashwin said on Twitter.

"Will I run if I see it!? Of course I will and I am allowed to.

"Am I a disgrace like Morgan said I was? Of course NOT."

Ashwin said he had no issues with his actions being questioned, but it was the name-calling that had irked him.

"I stood up for myself and that's what my teachers and parents taught me to do and pls teach your children to stand up for themselves," he said.

"In Morgan or Southee's world of cricket they can choose and stick to what they believe is right or wrong but do not have the right to take a moral high ground and use words that are derogatory.

"What's even more surprising is the fact that people are discussing this and also trying to talk about who is the good and bad person here!"

Apparently taking issue with the send-off he was given by Morgan, and Kiwi Tim Southee after he was dismissed, Ashwin said that once the game was over that's when the fireworks should stop.

"Give your heart and soul on the field and play within the rules of the game and shake your hands once the game is over," he said.

"The above is the only 'spirit of the game' I understand."

Kolkata would eventually run Delhi down in the penultimate over and currently sit fourth in the table. The loss didn't hurt the Capitals who remain in second and a certainty of a finals spot.
