‘Contest will be even against NZ’ Rizwan upbeat ahead of first Test

Karachi: Pakistan stand-in captain Mohammad Rizwan thinks that the contest will be even in the upcoming first Test against a quality New Zealand side.

Pakistan Test squad reached Tauranga yesterday and trained at Mount Maunganui today for four hours as they are scheduled to play the Boxing Day Test at the same venue.

“We practiced for such a long session to gel together as most of our players were in Shaheens and some were playing T20Is,” Rizwan said.

“Our players looked in a great rhythm and all our batters and bowlers have performances to their back. The contest will be challenging and even against New Zealand,” he added.

The 28-year-old Rizwan was in awe of regular captain Babar Azam, who has been helping the players in the sessions while recovering from a thumb injury.

“Babar Bhai has been really supportive throughout even with an injured thumb. He is helping every player, guiding and sharing experience since the T20I series,” he added.

He concluded by saying that the plan is simple going into the Test series and a win in the last T20I has given confidence to the team.
