'Drama ahead' as Haas sneers at Broncos offer

The Broncos could be in serious danger of not retaining arguably the best front-rower in rugby league for his entire career, after it was reported that Payne Haas is not interested in Brisbane's latest offer.

The NSW State of Origin enforcer is contracted to the Broncos until the end of 2024, but the club wants to lock him away on a longer-term deal.

While The Courier Mail reported that Haas was set to agree to a six-year deal, which would link him with the Broncos until the end of 2027, Nine's Danny Weidler has received mail of a different kind.

"The Brisbane Broncos are trying to get hold of Payne Haas tonight," Weidler posted on Twitter.

"I completely respect the journalists who get the Broncos mail – they get great info. However, I've been told Haas will not sign a six-year deal as things stand. Drama ahead."
