Roos' eyebrow-raising ultimatum to new coach

North Melbourne chairman Ben Buckley has raised eyebrows after seemingly giving new coach David Noble a three-year ultimatum to turn the struggling club around.

Noble will leave his post as Brisbane's football boss to take up the senior role at the Kangaroos after beating out Essendon assistant Daniel Giansiracusa and Collingwood assistant Robert Harvey for the role.

While Noble is widely thought of as a positive hire, given his experience in the AFL industry, Buckley's three-year mandate left some stunned.

"Realistically, David's got two to three years to really get us into a position where we're competing regularly in the top four and ultimately looking to win a premiership," Buckley told SEN Breakfast.

"That's our ultimate goal."

The comment was met with mixed reaction within the football industry, with Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes suggesting that it would be an interview played back in a few years if Noble was unable to turn the club around.

Buckley said Noble's wealth of football experience made him the perfect man to take over from Rhyce Shaw.

"He's coached football teams, he's been an assistant coach at AFL clubs, he's been a list manager, he's been a Head of Football and GM of Football both at Adelaide and Brisbane," he said.

"I think David's wealth of experience, diversity of experience, maturity, his ability to lead and create a whole football program probably set him apart from others."
