Maika Sivo's season is officially over after the Parramatta Eels confirmed the star winger ruptured his ACL against the Cowboys at the weekend.
In a huge blow for Eels' premiership hopes, Sivo will play no part in the upcoming finals series and will also likely miss the start of season 2022 as he undergoes a lengthy rehabilitation period after surgery.
The Fijian had to be helped from the field in the 25th minute after twisting his right leg in an awkward tackle while starting a set deep in Parramatta territory.
Coach Brad Arthur initially feared an MCL injury, but it has since been revealed that Sivo also injured his ACL in the incident.
"I think they've said MCL," Eels coach Brad Arthur told reporters at his post-match press conference.
"Obviously, he'll need scans in the morning but we're pushing it to get him back this year, I reckon.
"Fergo (Blake Ferguson) is back this week, so Fergo will come back onto the wing."
Sivo crumpled on the turf of Cbus Stadium and lay motionless for some time as he was attended to by medics after the incident.
He was whisked off the park and played no further part in the match. Later, he was spotted by cameras on the sidelines in crutches.
