What Ledecky really thinks of Ariarne Titmus

After a week of epic battles in the pool, it's nothing but mutual respect for Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky.

Titmus won the women's 200m and 400m freestyle events, the latter of the two causing seismic waves in the States, with many claiming that Ledecky was unbeatable going into the Games – and others expressing their distaste with the celebrations of Titmus' coach, Dean Boxall.

The American bounced back to claim gold in the 1500m, before the pair squared off once again in the 800m.

While some American fans attempted to paint the Aussie as a villain, the pair were full of adulation for each other's performances.

Titmus posted a photo of the pair on Instagram after her silver in that event, which was won by Ledecky.

"Tough race to finish my program here in Tokyo!" she said.

"I'm over the moon to have stood on the podium one last time after clocking a PB in the 800 free – thank you everyone for all your love and support it means everything!"

Ledecky fired back in the comments.

"Amazing week!! A thrill to race you and big congrats. Enjoy every moment back home," she said.

Hopefully the pair can keep the rivalry going in Paris in three years' time.
