'Front-runner' for new Collingwood coach revealed

Former North Melbourne Kangaroos coach Brad Scott has been tipped to be the next coach at Collingwood.

According to AFL insider Caroline Wilson, Scott is a "front-runner" to replace Nathan Buckley after the Magpies coach stood down from the role last month.

"Collingwood have certainly contacted Craig Kelly, the manager of Brad Scott – currently head of AFL Victoria at the AFL, and also a frontrunner to replace Steve Hocking as the head of footy at the AFL," Wilson said on Nine's Footy Classified.

"Brad Scott has to make up his mind, [on] which job he's going to go for.

"My understanding is.. Brad is… well, what I'm hearing from people at the AFL is that perhaps Brad hasn't lost the hunger to coach and that there is every chance he will put himself into the process for the Collingwood Football club, and if he does I reckon he'd be a very good chance to get that job."

"He enjoyed working at Collingwood, working under Mick Malthouse, he's got a great relationship with the footy cub, he doesn't have the doubts about the club at all with the issues going on there that others have, so it's going to be intriguing to see what he chooses to do," Wilson added.

Former Collingwood president Eddie McGuire agreed that Scott was held in high regard at the club, but disagreed that any potential coach candidate would have reservations amid a turbulent year for the Magpies.

"He's very well respected at Collingwood from his time back there in 2009," McGuire said.

"I think the club is going well enough that they'll say who they want and that person will probably say yes.

"I don't think there's any worries if you're going to coach Collingwood."

Don Pyke, Mark Williams and Andrew Voss have all also been linked to the Collingwood job.

"I don't know if Brad's been spoken to but I know the club have said they want to talk to Brad Scott," Wilson said.

"If I had to pick a front-runner, I would say [it's Brad Scott]."
