Western Bulldogs president Peter Gordon is confident that his side will be able to reach an agreement with Collingwood over how much of Adam Treloar's salary will be paid by his old club.
After acquiring the star midfielder in the final minute of the trade period, the Bulldogs were of the understanding that the Magpies would pay $300,000 of his $900,000 deal over the length of his five-year contract.
As of last week, the two teams were "as far apart as $200,000 a year on at least one season" of Treloar's five-year deal, according to veteran AFL reporter Damian Barrett.
While the two sides are yet to come to an agreement on exactly what percentage of the salary will be paid by each team, Gordon suggested that he was comfortable with where negotiations currently sit.
"When you've got clubs like the Bulldogs and Collingwood, we've got a very good relationship from the president down in each club, we understand each other's problems, we understand the sort of inconsistencies that go on," he told SEN.
"We'll sort out the detail with Collingwood in relation to that and we'll all get on with our lives.
"I think people just need to understand it's the industry.
"It's not (resolved yet), but it will be. You've got two clubs that respect each other and a player both clubs respect … and a deal got done in extraordinary circumstances and sensible heads will prevail and we'll do a deal."
Despite the deadline for completed trades to be finalised passing last week, the Bulldogs and Magpies were granted an extension by the AFL to reach an agreement.
