Lahore: The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) and participating teams were failed to follow SoPs during National Challenge Cup despite a rapid increase in COVID-19 cases across the country.
According to the details, facilities for players during the event weren’t enough to meet SoPs which were set by the state for conducting any major event. Players are residing at Sports Board Punjab and as many as 8 players are living in a single room which increases the chances of virus spread among the participants.
Players told this correspondent that they were even not provided with hygienic food and beds to sleep which made it difficult for them to prepare for the matches.
Following the current situation, this correspondent contacted the PFF and Sports Board Punjab but they blamed team management for such facilities. “We have allocated funds to the teams then they were responsible for arranging better facilities for their players,” PFF’s spokesperson told this correspondent.
“COVID-19 testing of players was also the responsibility of teams. However, we have continuously advised teams to follow proper SoPs,” he added.
It must be noted here that as many as 28 teams are taking part in the tournament including Pakistan Army, Baloch FC Noushki, Pakistan Police, HEC, NBP, Karachi United, Huma FC, Falcon Company, KRL, KPT, Popo FC, Saif Tex, PCAA, Afghan FC Chaman, Baloch FC Quetta, Lyallpur FC, WAPDA, Pakistan Navy, Asia Ghee Mills, SA Farms, SSGC, Masha United, SA Gardens, Wohaib FC, Pakistan Airforce, SNGPL, Hazara Coal Company, Nimso FC.
