Despite a dominant start from the NSW Sky Blues on Thursday night, the Maroons rallied and showed their true Queensland spirit in the second half, clawing back to record a dramatic 11-10 victory at McDonald Jones Stadium.
A clutch field goal from Lauren Brown with just minutes left on the clock sealed it.

In the first-ever three-game Women's Origin series, both sides will now head to Townsville for the decider in a few weeks in what promises to be a blockbuster.
"Origin continues to deliver miracles," he said on Nine.
"Can you believe that? They haven't looked like winners all night. That's not a field goal, that's a miracle. They have gritted their teeth and grind away and never give up.
"Queensland spirit shines through. The football gods lifted that ball over the posts."
Tempers flared early when Shannon Mato was penalised for a hair pull, before Keeley Davis dived over to score the opening try with a smart piece of play.
Jess Sergis was forced from the field for a head injury assessment before the break, despite seemingly suffering a leg injury after a high shot from Keilee Joseph.
The superstar centre passed her HIA, but another heavy collision in the second half left Sergis limping and in "serious pain" according to Allana Ferguson on Nine.
Sergis managed to battle through for the entire second half, even coming up with a huge one-on-one strip to allow NSW to extend their lead through Tiana Penitani.
However, a late try from Tarryn Aiken put the Maroons level, before Brown snapped the one-pointer to sink the hearts of the diehard fanbase who braved the rain-affected conditions in Newcastle.
