Schuster's shock $1 million Manly payout revealed

Josh Schuster could be paid out up to $1 million by the Sea Eagles, as the club prepares to part ways with the troubled utility.

The 22-year-old has likely played his last game for Manly, with concerns over his fitness leading to an early exit and the end of his tenure with the club.

Schuster hasn't played NRL this year and with plenty of time left on his big-money deal, Manly have decided to part ways with the Samoan international.

While some reports had indicated Schuster would receive an estimated $600,000 as part of his departure, Nine reporter Danny Weidler has revealed a much higher figure.

"Josh Schuster is getting close to a deal to leave Manly and negotiating his exit and terminating the contract," he said on Nine's 100% Footy.

"There has been a lot of talk about a $600,000 payout to Josh Schuster – but I can tell you, it's actually closer to $1 million. Manly are going to have to fork out $1 million now to say goodbye to Josh Schuster and that will be spread over their salary cap.

"It will be probably this year's pay and then $200,000 a year after that, so it adds up to close to a million bucks. It is a mutual agreement … this is a massive payout."

With just 50 matches to his name in the top grade, Schuster still has plenty of untapped potential – but at this stage, no rival clubs have expressed interest in signing him for 2025 and beyond.

Schuster has previously been touted as a five-eighth, but Manly moved him between the back-row and lock-forward roles at times during his stint.
