Brisbane Lions<\/a> star Eric Hipwood will miss the remainder of the 2021 season and at least half of the 2022 season after scans confirmed an ACL tear in his left knee.<\/p>\n

Hipwood, who has kicked 26 goals in 16 games this year, suffered the injury in the first quarter of Brisbane's shock 32-point loss to St Kilda<\/a> on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old twisted his left knee upon landing following a marking contest and was immediately helped off the ground by the Lions' medical staff.<\/p>\n

Scans confirmed that the left-footer ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and he will undergo surgery to repair his knee on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"This is very disappointing news for both Hipwood and the club, but we will rally around him and provide our full support to him," said Brisbane Lions GM of Football, Danny Daly.<\/p>\n

"He'll require surgery and rehabilitation over the next 10-12 months and the club will provide all the help and support that he needs to get back out on the field.<\/p>\n

"He's in good spirits and he's still got many years of footy ahead of him, and hopefully many more as a Lion."<\/p>\n

Hipwood is the second Lion to suffer an ACL injury this season after former No.1 pick Cam Rayner suffered the same injury<\/a> in the pre-season.<\/p>\n
