Conor McGregor's coach has slammed commentator Joe Rogan for interviewing the UFC star moments after his unusual defeat to Dustin Poirier.<\/a><\/p>\n

John Kavanagh also seemed to blame the interview for McGregor's inappropriate, heat-of-the-moment comments about Poirier's wife, Jolie.<\/p>\n

Poirier beat McGregor in their third meeting yesterday at UFC 264<\/a>, earning victory by doctor's stoppage when McGregor was unable to begin the second round due to a broken leg.<\/p>\n

The gruesome injury left McGregor unable to stand after the fight ended prematurely<\/a>, and as he sat on the canvas with his leg visibly floppy near the ankle, Rogan sat beside the furious Irishman for his reaction.<\/p>\n

"I was boxing the bleeding head off him, kicking the bleeding leg off him," an emotional McGregor said.<\/p>\n

"This is not over. If I have to take this on with him outside, I don't give a bollocks."<\/p>\n

\"McGregor<\/p>\n

"There was no check – not one of them checked," McGregor said defiantly about Poirier's claim he had caused the broken leg in the fight, before the former 'champ, champ' issued some personal trash talk.<\/p>\n

"Your wife is in my DMs!" McGregor yelled at Poirier.<\/p>\n

"Hey baby, hit me back up and I'll chat to you later on. We'll be having an after party at the Wynn nightclub baby."<\/p>\n

McGregor's brash verbal assaults are nothing new but his comments about Poirier's wife were not well received by the MMA community.<\/p>\n

Kavanaugh hit out at Rogan for pushing an interview while McGregor was still processing the painful defeat.<\/p>\n

"His foot is literally hanging down. It's a clean fracture of the fibula and tibia, it went straight through, the foot's hanging down," Kavanagh told Wimp2Warrior.<\/p>\n

"You can only imagine the rush of hormones and what's going on in your body, the pain, it was on fire. And then someone sits down and sticks a microphone in your face. 'How are you feeling about the end?'<\/p>\n

"Come on. Come on! When has he ever not been graceful at the end?<\/p>\n

"Let's get backstage, let's get a proper assessment from a doctor. Let's get an X-ray.<\/p>\n

"So I was pretty miffed at the idea of sticking a microphone in his face at that point."<\/p>\n

McGregor had to be stretchered off out of the octagon, and underwent surgery this morning. It was the first back-to-back loss in McGregor's UFC career.<\/p>\n

In the aftermath of the fight, Poirier's wife was spotted flipping the bird to McGregor in response to the trash talk.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Rogan after having his hand raised in the octagon, Poirier expressed his disappointment at the personal attacks McGregor persisted with.<\/p>\n

"There's no holds barred on the trash talk. But murder is something you don't clown around on. There's no coming back from that," Poirier said.<\/p>\n

"This guy was saying he's going to murder me, [saying] I'm going to leave here in a coffin. You don't talk like that to people man. I hope this guy gets home safe to his beautiful family."<\/p>\n

Poirier also accused McGregor of dodgy tactics in the fight.<\/p>\n

"Takedown was easy. He was putting his fingers in my glove and pulling me down to throw the up-kicks," he said.<\/p>\n

"I was trying to let [referee] Herb [Dean] know that. This guy is a dirtbag.<\/p>\n

"Everybody booing, you can kiss my whole a–hole. Karma is not a b—h, it's a mirror. I beat the guy."<\/p>\n

Poirier and McGregor both expressed interest in fighting each other again to settle their now very personal rivalry too.<\/p>\n

"We are going to fight again, whether it's in the octagon or the sidewalk," Poirier said in his post-fight press conference.<\/p>\n

"You don't say the stuff he said."<\/p>\n

UFC president Dana White also flagged a fourth showdown was on the cards.<\/p>\n

"The fight didn't get finished. You can't have a fight finish that way. We'll see how this whole thing plays out. Who knows how long Conor's out. Poirier will do his thing until Conor's ready," White said.<\/p>\n

Kavanaugh said McGregor was likely to return to the octagon and that he still had plenty more juice in the tank despite being monstered in the first round by Poirier.<\/p>\n

"Conor had no marks, no bruises, swelling, cuts, anything like that. So most of it was parried, but for sure that was Dustin's moment," Kavanagh said.<\/p>\n

"So all and all up until that point, let's say four and a half minutes, I wasn't concerned at all, I was actually really, really happy.<\/p>\n

\"Conor<\/p>\n

"At the four-and-a-half minute mark, everything's gravy. Energy looked good, technique looked good. A few adjustments between rounds and I thought we were on track to getting a finish there or at least keep going, keep the rhythm going for the rest of the fight.<\/p>\n

"He truly loves this and it's hard to imagine him not wanting to come back, not wanting to do this again. Because we really just got this fantastic rhythm," Kavanaugh said.<\/p>\n

"He's turning 33, which to me is a peaking time where strength meets conditioning and mental and physical and spiritual maturity, everything's coming together. I think we have a couple of years of this ahead of us.<\/p>\n

"Credit to Dustin. He won. It's an unfulfilling end to the night.<\/p>\n

"It doesn't feel properly finished. (There was no) closure."<\/p>\n

McGregor's coach revealed that it's possible an existing ankle injury in camp may have contributed to the broken leg in the fight.<\/p>\n

"We'd gotten a scan on it. Did that have a small part to play in weakening it? I don't know," Kavanagh said.<\/p>\n

"There might have been something in there. It seems unusual that a young, healthy, fit man can wrap his foot around an elbow without there being something there before. But you know, you can play those guessing games all day long."<\/p>\n
