Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather took extra joy in watching his former rival Conor McGregor go down to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264<\/a> after cashing in with a massive winning bet.<\/p>\n

Mayweather put down a $67,000 wager that Poirier would defeat McGregor in their Las Vegas showdown, and that's exactly what happened, albeit due to a "freak" leg break in the first round.<\/p>\n

Poirier was the bookie's favourite by a small margin, and despite the unorthodox victory he delivered a $48,000 payday for Mayweather.<\/p>\n

"Thanks for getting me paid," Mayweather tweeted with an image of the bet.<\/p>\n

"I got you champ," Poirier replied.<\/p>\n

Mayweather beat McGregor in August 2017 in a lucrative one-off boxing match.<\/p>\n

Poirier beat McGregor in their third meeting yesterday at UFC 264<\/a>, earning a victory by doctor's stoppage when McGregor was unable to begin the second round due to a broken leg.<\/p>\n

'The Diamond' was all over McGregor in the final seconds of the first round, with the clock luckily saving him from a TKO, when a leg injury ended the fight prematurely.<\/a><\/p>\n

Though commentators did not initially realise McGregor had suffered the injury amid a frantic finish to the opening round, it soon became clear when McGregor did not get up and go to his corner. He pointed to his leg as doctors rushed in.<\/p>\n

The crowd was left stunned with McGregor's leg clean broken and in gruesome scenes, wobbling as he lifted it off the canvas. The injury meant the fight was deemed over, and a doctor's stoppage, not a TKO, was the end result.<\/p>\n

McGregor had to be stretchered off out of the Octagon, and underwent surgery this morning.<\/p>\n

It was the first back-to-back loss in McGregor's UFC career.<\/p>\n
