An emotional Ash Barty is celebrating her dream come true after overcoming nerves to win the Wimbledon final 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-3<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Barty was brought to tears as she sunk to the turf of the All England Club after finally serving out the championship against plucky Czech Karolina Pliskova.<\/p>\n

After sweeping through the first set with breathtaking tennis the Australian world No.1 was made to fight for the title, Pliskova launching an incredible second-set comeback to win it in a tie-break. Pliskova had trailed 1-3 and then broke Barty as she served for the match for the first time.<\/p>\n

But Barty steadied and wouldn't be denied a second time, fighting off a break point with an incredible shot from deep in the backhand corner before winning the next two points to conquer her opponent once and for all.<\/p>\n

The Wimbledon crowd watched and listened in adoration as Barty did her best to process the victory in her on-court interview.<\/p>\n

"It took me a long time to verbalise the fact that I wanted to dare to dream and say I wanted to win this incredible tournament, and being able to live out my dream right now with everyone here has made it better than I could ever imagine," Barty said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"I didn't sleep a lot last night, I was thinking of all the what-ifs, but I think when I was coming out on this court I felt at home in a way.<\/p>\n

"To be able to share that with everyone here and share that with my team is incredible."<\/p>\n

In keeping with her phenomenal stretch of tennis that truly clicked in her third-round demolition of Katerina Siniakova, Barty was just about faultless in the opening set of the final.<\/p>\n

The Queenslander won the first 14 points of the match and broke Pliskova's serve twice in the first set.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old dropped punctuation marks on her first-set masterclass when she pulled off an exceptional lob shot during the second game, before she peeled off a sublime cross-court shot in the seventh game.<\/p>\n

"Brilliant from Barty," said Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge of her cross-court shot.<\/p>\n

Australian tennis great Jelena Dokic added: "Look at the angle that she gets, the whip, the racquet speed."<\/p>\n

Woodbridge spoke glowingly of Barty's first set, saying: "You could not have asked for a better start to a final."<\/p>\n

Barty's brilliance continued to shine in the second set.<\/p>\n

Up 3-1, the 2019 Roland-Garros champion again drew the praise of Woodbridge and Dokic when she coupled stellar footwork with an immaculate forehand winner to collect the first point of the fifth game.<\/p>\n

"Barty just dancing around the court," Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

"Wonderful footwork."<\/p>\n

Dokic added: "Stunning. How good is that footwork. Small adjustment footsteps to get around that ball."<\/p>\n

But it was then that Barty began to get the wobbles.<\/p>\n

In an emphatic reminder of her supreme calibre, world No.13 Pliskova strung together 10 points in a row to push ahead in the second set, mustering a 4-3 edge.<\/p>\n

The former world No.1 then broke Barty as she served for the title at 6-5, forcing a tie-break to the delight of the crowd.<\/p>\n

While the crowd was clearly on Barty's side during the early exchanges of the final, support shifted in favour of Pliskova as those in attendance craved a gripping affair.<\/p>\n

Exactly that was set up when Pliskova eclipsed Barty 7-4 in the tie-break, prompting Woodbridge to laud her "tremendous fightback".<\/p>\n

"Ash Barty with an opportunity to serve for the match at 6-5 – and from that moment on Pliskova barely made an unforced error," Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

"Found her range on her first serve.<\/p>\n

"I said to Ash Barty, 'If you're going to win this championship you're going to have to play at your highest level' – and she's been made to do just that."<\/p>\n

Pliskova won the fifth point of the tie-break with a sparkling backhand, springing to her left along the baseline and shovelling an unreachable shot straight past Barty.<\/p>\n

Cue another scintillating Barty surge.<\/p>\n

After stalling in her pursuit of victory in the second set she flew to a 3-0 lead in the decider.<\/p>\n

Perhaps the rally of the final was saved for the eighth game of the third set, when Barty led Pliskova 5-2. Barty, being run ragged by a flamboyant Pliskova, returned a drop shot, played a volley and covered a deep lob shot, before eventually losing the point to another drop shot. The rally lasted 11 shots.<\/p>\n

"Amazing! Brilliant from both players," Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

Dokic added: "That is a great point. Great hustle from Barty and Pliskova with the hands at the net."<\/p>\n

Barty's glorious victory moment eventually came in the following game, when Pliskova hit a backhand into the net.<\/p>\n

"Her dream comes true!" Woodbridge declared.<\/p>\n

Barty has etched her name in Australian sports folklore.<\/p>\n
