Roosters rookie Sam Walker pulled off a bizarre final-minute play in the Bulldogs clash<\/a> that left club great Boyd Cordner shaking his head and Balmain legend Garry Jack stunned.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old halfback received the footy deep in Bulldogs territory with 21 seconds left on the clock and performed an immediate '180', turning his back on Canterbury's defence and hurtling 85 metres in the wrong direction, eventually running the ball into touch.<\/p>\n

The baffling play that capped a 22-16 Roosters win at Bankwest Stadium has since raised questions of Walker's gamesmanship.<\/p>\n

"This is ridiculous! I don't know whether Trent Robinson is all that impressed with that," said Fox League commentator Andrew Voss.<\/p>\n

"That is a little arrogant, the play to finish the match, taking a little bit of 'you know what' out of the effort that was put in by the two sides tonight."<\/p>\n

But Tricolours coach Trent Robinson didn't have an issue with Walker's move when asked about it in his press conference, even after one journalist questioned if the move had gone against core Roosters values, including respect for the opposition.<\/p>\n

"Sammy, he's smart. He knows all the time on the clock … It's a different play and I think everyone will have their opinion on it," Robinson said with a grin.<\/p>\n

"He knows how to manage everything and he's learning how to play all the tough parts of the game and then all the smart parts of the game can come on the back of that.<\/p>\n

"It's smart to manage the clock but it goes against what purists would say.<\/p>\n

"But he took the risk out of the last play and finished the game off."<\/p>\n

Walker gave his own explanation of the passage of play.<\/p>\n

"I was thinking, 'I'm not going to take a field goal and give them another chance with the footy'," Walker laughed.<\/p>\n

"I thought I'd run the clock out."<\/p>\n

Former Kangaroos and Blues fullback Jack labelled Walker's play "a brain explosion".<\/p>\n

Walker's move perhaps disrespected Canterbury's tenacious fight throughout the game.<\/p>\n

While Trent Barrett's Bulldogs are running last on the ladder and have won just two of their 16 games, they clawed back from 10 points down to level scores up at 16-all in the 49th minute.<\/p>\n

The Tricolours closed out the win through a Matt Ikuvalu try in the 52nd minute and a Walker penalty goal in the 76th minute, the result of a head-high Jack Hetherington tackle.<\/p>\n
