Australia has capitulated to lose a T20 match that seemed impossible to throw away, collapsing from 5\/117 to lose their last five wickets for just 10 runs in an 18-run defeat to the West Indies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Aussies were cruising with No.3 Mitchell Marsh in command, chasing a modest total of just 146 for victory.<\/p>\n

But when the powerful all-rounder lost his wicket for a bruising 53 off 31 balls, the visitors lost their way in alarming style with the last four wickets tumbling in the next 3.3 overs.<\/p>\n

Australia<\/a> still had four overs of their innings left when star quick Josh Hazlewood was knocked over for a duck with the last bowl of the 16th over, handing an unlikely victory to the West Indies.<\/p>\n

"Any time you lose 6-19 you're going to struggle to win a T20 game," Finch said after the loss. "We just needed someone to take it upon themselves to get there right through to the end … very disappointing.<\/p>\n

"We've been working on trying to be a little bit more aggressive in the middle overs. Maybe we just needed to rein it in a bit today and have more smarts."<\/p>\n

The rot started just before topscorer Marsh was removed, with Moises Henriques dismissed for 16 having hit sixes off the first two deliveries he faced.<\/p>\n

Henriques was caught by Dwayne Bravo off the bowling of Fabien Allen, leaving Marsh to guide the chase home with Australia at 4\/89 after 7.5 overs.<\/p>\n

Ben McDermott didn't hang around long, bowled by Hayden Walsh for just two off six deliveries. Yet it wasn't until Marsh lost his wicket three overs later that the home side really started to sniff a chance of victory, with Dan Christian, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa and Hazlewood left to find the last 29 runs for victory.<\/p>\n

Only would Christian would make a meaningful contribution, scoring 10 off 12 balls before being dismissed by Walsh.<\/p>\n

On a roll, the West Indies bowlers didn't need a second invitation to snatch victory, dismissing Starc and Hazlewood for 3 and 0 respectively, to seal a famous comeback win.<\/p>\n

While Walsh (3\/23) and Allen (2\/24) took the big scalps to turn the momentum it was an excellent all-round team performance in the field from the home side, with Obed McCoy returning the best figures of 4\/26 to claim the Man of the Match award.<\/p>\n

"I felt we always had a chance if we could pick up a couple wickets and when it started going for us we were able to pull it off," said a delighted McCoy after the match. <\/p>\n

"I'm really enjoying my bowling and I am glad I can just make a contribution to this team."<\/p>\n

Australia won't have long to regroup, with the second T20 to be played tomorrow at 9.30am<\/a> (AEST).<\/p>\n
