Alastair Clarkson<\/a> has strongly denied rumours that he won't see out the coaching succession plan with Sam Mitchell<\/a>, insisting that he'll remain at Hawthorn in 2022.<\/p>\n

Clarkson's storied tenure as Hawthorn's senior coach will officially come to an end at the end of 2022 after the club announced that Mitchell will take over as coach from 2023 onwards<\/a>, leaving many to wonder where the four-time premiership winner will go next.<\/p>\n

The 53-year-old has been linked with the Collingwood job opening as well as the Carlton job, although Blues coach David Teague remains contracted for next season. <\/p>\n

Links to rival clubs have done little to push Clarkson out the door, with the Hawks coach rubbishing rumours that a clash with Mitchell will see him leave early.<\/p>\n

"I'm contracted until the end of next year and I am staying here," Clarkson told reporters Friday.<\/p>\n

"The only thing that changes in terms of decision-making is to do with some staff and some players and list management and that sort of stuff about [the] future of the club beyond 2022.<\/p>\n

"All the day-to-day stuff is still pretty much run by me and I'll consult with Sam on that, like we always have done anyway.<\/p>\n

"There's plenty of sceptics out there that say: 'Well, that's not going to work, they're two hard-nosed and stubborn lads.' But tell me a coach that's not. We will work our way through that. He and I know each other pretty well."<\/p>\n

Clarkson admitted that he might not immediately accept another job after his Hawks tenure finishes, saying "there is something exciting about wondering what else is out there".<\/p>\n

Clarkson's comments come after his former Hawks player Shane Crawford also casted doubt over whether he'd leave Hawthorn prematurely<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"He wants to leave the club in a better position, he doesn't want to leave it sitting on the bottom of the ladder passing it on," Crawford told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"He wants to leave the club in a position where it's going to improve and they'll hopefully get back to the finals.<\/p>\n

"He's not being selfish with what he's doing, he didn't have to take on a rebuilding phase, which he's done really well this year by playing a lot of kids. He's just not that type of person who's going to desert the footy club while it's at its lowest."<\/p>\n
