The controversy that has headlined England's Euro semi-final win over Denmark<\/a> has taken a grim turn after eagle-eyed fans spotted a laser-pointer being shone in the face of Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel as he prepared to face a penalty from England skipper Harry Kane.<\/p>\n

If the circumstances under which England were awarded what was to be the eventual match-winning penalty weren't contentious enough<\/a> \u2013 after Raheem Sterling appeared to fall to ground with near-no contact in the box \u2013 then a crowd member with a laser-pointer at Wembley Stadium would take the drama to new levels.<\/p>\n

Soon after full-time, fans began sharing slow-motion replays of Kane's penalty on Twitter, with vision clearly showing a green beam of light being flashed across the face of Schmeichel.<\/p>\n

Remarkably, the Danish keeper somehow still managed to save Kane's attempt but was thwarted by an unfortunate deflection that made its way back into the feet of the England skipper, who slotted England home to the final.<\/p>\n

It capped off a hugely unlucky sequence for Denmark \u2013 with replays also showing a second ball on the pitch during play (which is against official rules) \u2013 as they were eventually downed 2-1 by the end of extra time in London.<\/p>\n

Fans from both camps were quick to express their disgust with the act, calling for a life ban for the offender.<\/p>\n
