Paul Vaughan has vowed to keep fighting for his NRL career after the Dragons tore up his NRL contract, speaking for the first time since the now-infamous house party he hosted<\/a> with St George Illawarra teammates. <\/p>\n

Vaughan's sacking was the biggest punishment handed down to the 13 St George Illawarra players involved, with the Dragons players fined more than $300,000 in total for attending the party which breached the NSW government's current stay at home orders amid Sydney's COVID-19 outbreak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It's understood the sacking has cost the 30-year-old in the ballpark of $1 million in total<\/a>, a number that includes the remainder of this season's deal as well as the $800,000 he was set to earn in 2022.<\/p>\n

"Firstly I am sorry," he wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\"Paul<\/p>\n

"My actions were stupid, unexplainable and irresponsible. The events that took place on the weekend were thoughtless and disrespectful to not only the game that I love but to all of the sponsors, members and fans as well as the broader community.<\/p>\n

"The reality is, I should have known better and I am truly sorry. I have let a lot of people down through my actions, and I hope that this sincere apology shows how deeply sorry I am and that I realise the enormity and stupidity of what I have done.<\/p>\n

"To say that I have learnt a lesson from this is an understatement. I hope one day in the future, I can get the opportunity to showcase my remorse through better actions on and off the field.<\/p>\n

"Again, I apologise to my teammates, the NRL, the club, its members, sponsors and fans along with all stakeholders in the game and community."<\/p>\n

Shortly after his post on social media, he appeared on Fox League's NRL 360<\/em> where he revealed why he decided to be the host of the party.<\/p>\n

"To be completely honest, It was more so to have the boys enjoying each other's company," he said.<\/p>\n

"Obviously not the right thing to do. In hindsight, it was a very stupid thing to do."<\/p>\n

Vaughan also admitted he will do everything he can to resume his professional career, with a "burning desire" now to prove that he can turn things around.<\/p>\n

"I really hope not," Vaughan said when asked if his NRL career was over.<\/p>\n

"This game I love so much, it really pains me to see the impact it's had.<\/p>\n

"It's hit me hard. It's heartbreaking for me, I never wanted this to happen.<\/p>\n

"I would love to continue playing NRL, whether that be the case – I have a burning desire to not only show I can continue on playing but to prove myself and to people that I'm a good person and to repay the faith."<\/p>\n
