Australia's Alja Tomljanovic is through to the Wimbledon quarter-finals<\/a> after British teen star Emma Raducanu retired hurt in their fourth round match.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic led 6-4 3-0 when Raducanu pulled out. She received medical attention on court, then left for the locker room and ultimately could not continue.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic said that she was "shocked" by the outcome but the world No.75 is now booked in for an all-Australian quarter-final against world No.1 Ash Barty<\/a>, who beat Roland Garros champion Barbora Krej\u010d\u00edkov\u00e1 in straight-sets.<\/p>\n

Raducanu had dazzled Wimbledon with her charge, as an 18-year-old wildcard entrant who played her first WTA Tour match just four weeks ago. She is ranked No.338 in the world and was playing only her second Tour-level event at the All England Club.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic played a strong match up until the retirement and was sorry to see it end in pain for her young opponent.<\/p>\n

"I'm actually really kind of shocked and it's obviously so bittersweet because Emma must be really, really hurt if she came to the decision to retire," the Aussie said post-match.<\/p>\n

"To play as a Brit at home, it's unbelievable. I'm really sorry for her because I wish we could have finished it; but it's sport, it happens, so I'm really wishing her all the best."<\/p>\n

This is now the best run for Tomljanovic, 28, in a Grand Slam. Remarkably, her boyfriend – Italy's Matteo Berrettini – is also into the Wimbledon final eight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tomljanovic – who survived a feisty third round match against former Grand Slam winner Jelena Ostapenko, ending in a nasty argument<\/a> – was pleased with her form and now faces a far greater test in Barty.<\/p>\n

"The beginning was really nervous from both sides but I think towards the end of that first set, we really started playing some good tennis," Tomljanovic said.<\/p>\n

"I felt like I found my groove. In the second set, I felt like I was playing well but then Emma was hurt and wasn't at her best; now kind of explains it.<\/p>\n

"It didn't really sink in that I'm in the quarters, just because of the circumstances, but to play Ash in the quarters – two Aussies, one will for sure go through to the semis – it's great. I think everyone back home is really happy and I'm thrilled to play Ash. I'm hoping that it will be a great match."<\/p>\n
