Queensland legends Paul Vautin and Billy Slater have whacked the 13 Dragons players caught up in the now-infamous house party COVID breach with a serious reality check after they were handed monster fines totalling $305,000 by the NRL.<\/a><\/p>\n

The NRL handed down their punishment for the offending cohort on Monday, sanctions which included hefty fines and time on the sidelines for the 13 players who attended a house party at Paul Vaughan's residence over the weekend.<\/a><\/p>\n

Vautin was left speechless by the shocking disregard for public health protocols amid NSW's recent delta outbreak and had a few select words for the offending bunch.<\/p>\n

"I'm just going to say this, these blokes are dickheads. That's all you can say," Vautin told 2GB's Wide World Of Sports Radio.<\/p>\n

"Everyone is without speech at what they've done. It's not just broken the NRL rules, it's broken the laws of the NSW Government.<\/p>\n

"Everyone is trying to survive in these days that we've got. COVID is rampant down in Sydney. They're all supposed to be home under lockdown and someone decides to throw a party. Every player deserved to be fine. Seriously, it's a disgrace really.<\/p>\n

"I commend the NRL, they've handled it very well and the full weight of the law has come down on the Dragons. And they deserve what happens to them over the next 8-10 weeks. It's very sad and I just don't know what made them think they can do this."<\/p>\n

Slater was equally baffled by the group's decision to hold a party and was left fuming at the group's selfishness, particularly considering how many Australians are currently doing it tough around the country.<\/p>\n

"It's extremely disappointing. These players knew they were doing the wrong thing. Everyone knows what protocols they're in, especially the NRL players," Slater told WWOS Radio. "They go and do this knowing it's the wrong thing to do."<\/p>\n

"You're setting an example, you've got people at home, fans at home, that are following you and they see this. It just shows them that you think you're bigger than the law. You think you're bigger than the general public.<\/p>\n

"The other thing is, the other 500 players are all doing the right thing. We've got the NZ Warriors who haven't been home in a year, and these players can't just toe the line?<\/p>\n

"It's ignorant, selfish and they've been dealt heavy fines.<\/p>\n

It shows a real lack of leadership at the club, doesn't it? If there are 12 players at that venue, I dare say the whole group would have known about it. There are senior players within, and Paul Vaughan is one of them. He's a senior player at that club, and then you go out and do something like this.<\/p>\n

"That just shows to me a real lack of leadership at the club."<\/p>\n
