Interim Cronulla Sharks coach Josh Hannay has lauded young star Ronaldo Mulitalo for handling a "challenging" past fortnight that saw the winger ruled ineligible to play for Queensland<\/a> after initially being named in the Game Two squad last month.<\/p>\n

Mulitalo's Origin fate was sealed earlier in the week when the NRL ruled that he was ineligible to represent Queensland after "being wrongly allowed to represent" the Maroons at age group level.<\/p>\n

Mulitalo's Sharks were defeated today by the Broncos<\/a> at Suncorp Stadium, and while the 21-year-old had a solid outing and finished the match with a try assist along with 109 run metres, he was reportedly seen in tears after the match when sharing an embrace with family members in the stands.<\/p>\n

Following the match, Hannay praised Mulitalo for braving through the past fortnight and said the youngster had been "let down by the game".<\/p>\n

"Credit to Ronny. I can't tell you how tough and challenging the last fortnight has been for him," Hannay told reporters after the match.<\/p>\n

"To be really honest, he has been let down by the game and the processes and how it has come to this situation, and he has really stood up.<\/p>\n

"He is an emotional lad and we are always really worried about that with these young guys, and with their emotions.<\/p>\n

"He went out there today and was really strong for us. I think it is going to hit him like a ton of bricks tonight.<\/p>\n

"The (Origin eligibility) decision that has come down, we have lost the game…and to get on the plane now – we have to get around him the next few days and weeks."<\/p>\n

Hannay also credited Mulitalo for not being afraid to show his emotions and seeking help during his tough last fortnight.<\/p>\n

"The one thing with Ronny, and that's a good thing, is that he wears his heart on his sleeve," Hannay said.<\/p>\n

"You know how he is feeling. He will actually tell you. He is not one of those guys who hides it.<\/p>\n

"We are always in dialogue with Ronny because there is a lot going on at the moment for a young fella.<\/p>\n

"He is doing one hell of a job and can hold his head high with how he is handling it."<\/p>\n
