Following a Saturday fixture of NRL which saw Manly defeat the Bulldogs by 66<\/a>, Gold Coast down Canberra by 38<\/a> and the Knights with a 38-point win<\/a> over the Cowboys, the South Sydney coach was asked if he thought players were struggling to cope with the NRL's new rules.<\/p>\n Bennett acknowledged the disparity in games over the weekend but said the bulk of the blame should land with some of the clubs and the way they're treating some of their players.<\/p>\n "Management of clubs has a huge result on performances at the moment," he told reporters after the match.<\/p>\n "Clubs have to take a hell of a lot more responsibly than what they're taking for the way the game is being played. It's as simple as that.<\/p>\n "I'm not going to name names and I'm not going to name clubs, but if you look at some clubs and the decisions they've made some of the things that have happened with players, I wouldn't want to be in that club.<\/p>\n "I know if I was in that club I wouldn't be playing very well."<\/p>\n When pressed by a reporter on whether there's a divide in talent, Bennett launched to the defence of the players as he brought to light once again the issues some clubs are dealing with internally.<\/p>\n "You (media) keep blaming the players," he said.<\/p>\n "You're so far off the mark it doesn't matter. You're not in clubland, you don't understand how it works.<\/p>\n "Until the club itself gets their management in order, their whole ship – the club and players won't be able to respond. But you (media) keep blaming the players.<\/p>\n "I'm saying clubs, the way they are managed is the issue."<\/p>\n With more questions coming his way, Bennett then urged members of the media to have some perspective on what working in a "toxic environment" would be like.<\/p>\n "You're (media) saying that while get they get played, they should go out there and play," the veteran coach said.<\/p>\n "I'm going to tell you, not one of you guys in this room go to a toxic environment to work, do your best work.<\/p>\n "You're professional in your roles as journalists, it doesn't happen for you. It's no different for the football team. The easy blame is to put the blame on the player because he's not playing well, or the club and team are not playing well.<\/p>\n "You've got to look deeper than that guys because that's where the problem is.
