The West Coast Eagles<\/a> have been blasted after a "deplorable" first-half effort against the Sydney Swans<\/a> which saw the team record its sixth-lowest scoring half in club history.<\/p>\n

West Coast was held to just nine points at the main break, trailing the Swans by a whopping 61 points after a stunning second-quarter onslaught from Sydney.<\/p>\n

The Eagles finished the match with just 26 points, its lowest score since Round 23, 1992, as the Swans ran out 18. 10. (118) to 3. 8. (26) winners<\/a> at GMHBA Stadium.<\/p>\n

The shocking performance from a team that many called a premiership contender coming into the season led to Kangaroos great David King declaring that it was the end of an era for Adam Simpson's side.<\/p>\n

"We might be seeing the end of an era here," King told Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

\"West<\/p>\n

"We might be seeing the West Coast campaign of four to five years just finally tip over the edge.<\/p>\n

"The numbers don't lie. The last six weeks the West Coast Eagles have been the poorest team in the competition without the football.<\/p>\n

"They can't stop nor win the ball back. They can't interrupt, they can't confuse their opponents."<\/p>\n

Simpson was left scratching his head at the main break, at a loss for why his side had been so ruthlessly dismantled by the Swans.<\/p>\n

"Every move we pulled we were exposed the other way," he told Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"They got goalside really early on us and we had to put an extra behind the ball and obviously it's hard to score when you do that.<\/p>\n

"We've got to restart and try and get some confidence."<\/p>\n

The match was played at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong due to NSW's COVID-19 outbreak and the first-half performance continued what has been a horror run in Geelong for the Eagles this season after a 97-point loss to the Cats at the same venue in Round 6.<\/p>\n

"This is just a complete dismantling of what we thought was a potential serious finalist," Hawthorn icon Jason Dunstall told Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"We're just not used to seeing West Coast unable to defend. They're just getting belted up at the moment.<\/p>\n

"I'm surprised by the meek response from West Coast. This is a team that is sitting in the top six with visions of perhaps being top four and they have no answer whatsoever. There's no aggression, there's no flair, there's no Plan B."<\/p>\n

Fans on social media were equally scathing of the Eagles' showing, giving Simpson's side no hope of claiming its second premiership in four seasons this year.<\/p>\n
