Karachi: Swiss Tennis star Roger Federer’s career has been marred by knee injuries and it is taking longer than expected for him to return to the Tennis court.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 39-year-old Federer\u00a0is unsure whether he will be ready for the Australian Open as he is still recovering\u00a0from two surgeries.<\/p>\n

Federer said\u00a0in October that he was practicing pain-free and expected to return to the circuit at the first Grand Slam of the year (Australian Open).<\/p>\n

\u201cI would have hoped that I would be 100% in October. But I am still not today. It will be tight for the Australian Open,\u201d Federer said on Sunday\u00a0at an awards ceremony in Switzerland.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second knee operation was a huge damper, but in the last six months, there has been steady progress. Let\u2019s see how the next two months will unfold. I\u2019ve been doing a lot of physio and physical work lately, now let\u2019s see how tennis is doing,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Australian Open is scheduled to start from January 18-31 but they are reports it could be further pushed back to February second week\u00a0due to COVID-19 protocols.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the winner of 20 Grand Slam singles title\u00a0was voted the best Swiss athlete since 1950.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope there is still something to see from me next year but if that was it, that would have been an incredible ending for me at these Sports Awards,”\u00a0he added.<\/p>\n

Note, Federer has not played a competitive match since losing to Novak Djokovic in this season\u2019s semi-finals at Melbourne Park.<\/p>\n
