Gold Coast chairman Tony Cochrane has delivered a passionate plea to the AFL following his club's extraordinary 10-point victory over Richmond<\/a>, imploring the league to "stay the course" and declaring Queensland footy is set to become "a powerforce".<\/p>\n

The Suns produced a boilover in their clash with the reigning premiers at Marvel Stadium, dominating the midfield battle en route to a 10.17 (77) to 10.7 (67) win that's left the Tigers' dynasty at breaking point.<\/p>\n

The surprise win has come during a desperate chapter in the Suns' history, with many AFL experts fearing the existence of the Gold Coast club amid another grim season.<\/p>\n

But a fired-up Cochrane begged to the AFL to maintain the faith on the back of the Suns' staggering win.<\/p>\n

"The junior development in Queensland is massive," Cochrane said on Fox Footy's coverage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"We've got to stay the course, the AFL has to stay the course. Queensland's going to be a powerforce in the AFL system. We as a club have done it tough again this year, but stick with us. We're on the up, we're going to go somewhere, we're going to get better at it, we're going to stay the distance. Our boys tonight – what an effort against last year's premiers. What a fantastic effort."<\/p>\n

Gold Coast were inspired by star midfielder Touk Miller, who racked up 36 touches (15 contested) and nine clearances to lead the 14th-placed Suns to just their fifth win of the season.<\/p>\n

But Cochrane made a point of young Suns defender Will Powell, who notched his 50th AFL game tonight.<\/p>\n

"We all don't talk about him but a guy who played 50 games tonight, Will Powell – I'm telling you, Will is going to be an All Australian," Cohrane said.<\/p>\n

"Mark my words: this kid has got everything. Courage … there's nothing of him, his 50th game tonight.<\/p>\n

"We forget how young these guys are, we've got to give them a bit of a chance, we've got to get off their backs and we've got to allow them to develop. Don't worry, this side is going places."<\/p>\n

The Suns recorded 41 more disposals than the Tigers, 16 more contested possessions, six more clearances and 22 more inside 50s, leaving North Melbourne great David King stunned.<\/p>\n

"They smashed them in the middle," King said.<\/p>\n

"That was a comprehensive clubbing in the middle."<\/p>\n
