Nick Kyrgios will play mixed doubles with Venus Williams at Wimbledon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The show-stopping Aussie threw out an open invitation to potential partners before heading to the All England Club and revealed that he'd scored an incredible pairing in Williams.<\/p>\n

"The mixed doubles team of the tournament," Kyrgios told reporters at Wimbledon, where he is returning after a lengthy break from tennis. He will play French rising star Ugo Humbert in his opening singles match.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios wowed Wimbledon as a 19-year-old when he beat then-world No.1 Rafael Nadal en route to the quarter-finals. Now 26, the Australian has cemented himself as one of tennis' biggest drawcards, albeit without major titles.<\/p>\n

Williams, 41, is a five-time Wimbledon singles champion and seven-time Grand Slam winner. She has also won 14 doubles majors and a pair of mixed doubles Grand Slam titles.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios has been away from the ATP Tour, outside of the Australian events, since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.<\/p>\n

"I've been in Australia now for a year and a half. A nice quick trip to London, then i'm going to go to the Bahamas after this, then the US swing and then hopefully play Laver Cup," he said.<\/p>\n

"I'm just using this as a big change of scenery. I take it day by day, try and be better as a tennis player, try and be better as a person. I've honestly just reached a nice level of freedom, nothing fazes me any more.<\/p>\n

"I definitely feel that I could beat 50 per cent of the draw on grass without much preparation. I know for a fact that no one here wanted to play me first round. I feel completely confident going into this match.<\/p>\n

"I'm not saying that I'm the favourite but I know how to play on grass. I've won a lot of matches on grass. It's going to be fun. As I said, I'm the underdog."<\/p>\n
