Ben Ikin has resigned from Fox Sports and will depart his role as NRL 360 host this week after joining the Broncos<\/a> as the fallen glamour club's new head of football.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old, who played 55 matches with the Broncos in a 150-game first-grade career, has been installed as Peter Nolan's replacement<\/a>. Nolan was sacked after Thursday night's 46-0 thrashing at the hands of the Rabbitohs.<\/p>\n

General manager of football operations Andrew Croll was also axed following Brisbane's drubbing, while there were fears that first-year head coach and club legend Kevin Walters<\/a> was fighting for his job as news of a player revolt<\/a> broke out. Brisbane bosses have since extinguished those concerns.<\/p>\n

The appointment of Ikin comes amid the Broncos' commitment to an extensive review of the football department during a second-straight abysmal season on the field.<\/p>\n

"The Broncos are a great club," Ikin said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"The NRL team isn't doing so great at the moment, so this opportunity is both exciting and challenging.<\/p>\n

"Broncos fans are desperate to see the NRL team playing finals and winning premierships again, and I'll be doing everything I can to make that happen."<\/p>\n

After Brisbane last year collected their first-ever wooden spoon since joining the competition in 1988, the club is again running last after the first 15 rounds of the 2021 season.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

And in additional signs of the Broncos' extraordinary demise, the club has lost the supremely talented David Fifita<\/a>, Xavier Coates<\/a> and Reece Walsh<\/a> against its will in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

Ikin last year applied for the Broncos' chief executive role amid the departure of long-term boss Paul White, but the 2000 Brisbane premiership five-eighth was beaten to the position by Dave Donaghy.<\/p>\n

Yet, even as he was interviewing for the CEO role, Ikin wasn't afraid to blast the club over its mismanagement of the roster, which has resulted in an unbalanced squad that lacks class in the playmaking positions.<\/p>\n

"The list management at the Brisbane Broncos has been disgusting. Disgusting," Ikin said on NRL 360.<\/p>\n

"There's no way around it. The 30-man squad that they have assembled is ineffective, it's out of balance.<\/p>\n

"There's a general manager of football up there in Peter Nolan who has worked together with Wayne Bennett, Paul White supposedly did the Darius Boyd deal, Anthony Seibold has made some decisions.<\/p>\n

"So I would say you less hang this on one person … The system is broken … and (it's) out of balance that they've arrived at this point where they've been beaten by the last-placed Titans, and not in a close contest."<\/p>\n

Ikin's new role will put him in charge of roster management, giving him the opportunity to overhaul that system.<\/p>\n
