St George Illawarra's 22-20 win over Canberra<\/a> wasn't without controversy in the final minute of the game, with the Raiders appearing to miss out on a crucial penalty that could've sent the game to Golden Point.<\/p>\n

With just over a minute remaining, Raiders winger Semi Valemei was tackled close to the sideline in attacking territory before he was taken into touch.<\/p>\n

Replays showed there appeared to be a second effort in the initial tackle from the two Dragons defenders – Gerard Beale and Jack Bird – which resulted in Valemei's head finding touch with the sideline, prompting a change of possession.<\/p>\n

Had a penalty been called for an extra effort in the tackle to put Valemei into touch, it would've given the Raiders a fresh set of tackles or a chance to level the match with a shot from the sideline 25 metres out.<\/p>\n

"Elliott Whitehead is furious," Dan Ginnane said in commentary for Fox League.<\/p>\n

"Was he down, were they entitled to take him out? That is why Whitehead is blowing up.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"It would've been a penalty 20 metres out with enough time for a full set. More drama at WIN Stadium."<\/p>\n

"He's held and then he's pushed across," co-commentator, Broncos great Corey Parker, added.<\/p>\n

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was asked after the match if he thought there was a second effort involved in the tackle on Valemei before turning the question back on the reporter.<\/p>\n

The reporter answered and said he believed there was a second effort involved, to which Stuart replied, "me too".<\/p>\n

However, the Raiders coach chose not to criticise the officials involved and conceded it was all part of the luck that comes with each game.<\/p>\n

"That bounce of the ball and an ounce of luck is what didn't go our way tonight," he said.<\/p>\n

"I said to the players down there, 'we were right in that fight tonight and you might win one soon with a little bit of luck'.<\/p>\n

"But we can't disrupt the momentum we have of training and as a club."<\/p>\n
