Arriving in California to be honoured at the US Open, new footage has emerged of Tiger Woods successfully putting weight on his injured leg four months after he was hurt in a horrific car crash<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In late February, Woods was driving in the Los Angeles suburbs when his SUV hit a curb, a tree and then flipped on its side<\/a> as he lost control going down a two-lane road. The golf legend was pulled from the totalled wreck by emergency services with significant injuries to his lower right leg and ankle that required a "long surgical procedure"<\/a> to repair.<\/p>\n

Woods, 45, was lucky to survive the crash and there were even fears he might lose his leg<\/a>, however he has since shared promising updates on his recovery after the accident.<\/p>\n

Following more surgeries Woods has been on crutches, with his leg in a heavy brace – as seen in an Instagram post from April – but new vision shows the incredible progress he has made.<\/p>\n

Today TMZ footage depicted Woods coming off his private jet to a car at LA airport with just a compression sleeve on his right leg, and though still using crutches, he was seen putting weight on his leg with a slight limp as he walked. It was the first time Woods has travelled interstate since the crash, with his recovery keeping him at home in Florida.<\/p>\n

Though he won't be playing in the tournament, Woods is in California for the 2021 US Open which begins on June 17 at Torrey Pines, in San Diego, two hours south of LA.<\/p>\n

According to Golfweek reporter Adam Schupak, Woods is set to be honoured with a plaque at Torrey Pines about his infamous putt on the 18th green to get into a playoff and ultimately win the US Open in 2008. <\/p>\n

At the time Woods was battling constant knee issues and immediately after the tournament he underwent further knee surgery when it was revealed he had played with stress fractures and a torn ACL. The 2008 major victory was saw Woods join Jack Nicklaus as the only two players to ever achieve a career grand slam three times.<\/p>\n

While Woods' recovery from the car accident<\/a> continues, with no return date given, there is growing doubt he will ever play the sport again. He told Golf Digest last month<\/a> that his main focus for now has simply been walking.<\/p>\n

"My physical therapy has been keeping me busy," Woods said.<\/p>\n

"I do my routines every day and am focused on my No. 1 goal right now: walking on my own. Taking it one step at a time."<\/p>\n

"I understand more of the rehab processes because of my past injuries, but this was more painful than anything I have ever experienced," he added.<\/p>\n

The 15-time major champion also turned down the opportunity to be a part of NBC's television broadcast team for their US Open coverage this weekend.<\/p>\n

"We were all thinking how good that would be, who better, if he couldn't be there to play it, to voice it and have him a part of the show, but we were rebuffed," NBC's Dan Hicks said, according to Golf.com, about Woods' foray into broadcasting while not playing.<\/p>\n

"He didn't want to do it, and I totally understand his situation."<\/p>\n

"There is a lot going on in his world right now and there's also a part of Tiger that doesn't want to become this, I don't want to, for lack of a better word, a sideshow at an event where we should be concentrating on what's happening."<\/p>\n
