Roosters coach Trent Robinson has taken aim at the NRL and their implementation of the crackdown which he believes encourages players to stay down after high contact.<\/p>\n

Talk of players "milking" penalties <\/a>has escalated ever since the league introduced its controversial new crackdown on foul-play at Magic Round.<\/p>\n

Since then there has been a fine line walked by players and officials alike when determining the severity of contact to the head.<\/p>\n

Robinson believes it may in fact be the discretion of officials that is encouraging players to stay down after Kevin Proctor was spared any time on the sideline despite clobbering Joey Manu in the Roosters' tight win over the Raiders because the centre promptly got to his feet after the challenge.<\/a><\/p>\n

Referee Ben Cummins was heard explaining that as Manu didn't look injured and got to his feet, he didn't believe the hit to be as serious.<\/p>\n

"The issue I have is a head-high would have been sent to the bin two weeks ago… but we don't want our players to lie down, and then the commentating around it from referees is 'they've stood up, they've stood up, I'm OK with that'," an irate Robinson said.<\/p>\n

"So what they're saying is lie down.<\/p>\n

"Players aren't going to lie down, they're going to stand up and get on with it. They're going to jump up for the most part.<\/p>\n

"They're asking, they are saying 'he's got to his feet', so is that a part of their ruling?<\/p>\n

"The one on Joey Manu, do you want us to lie down?<\/p>\n

\"Proctor<\/p>\n

"The NRL has put it back on this gamesmanship, this gentlemen's agreement… just don't encourage it. It's not our game.<\/p>\n

"And then you put it back on the players or the coaches, don't commentate in that way.<\/p>\n

"It's really silly, I can't believe that I heard that out there.<\/p>\n

"If their difference is that the player got up or stayed down, then they're saying to our players stay down.<\/p>\n

"That is unacceptable, it's unacceptable in our game."<\/p>\n
