<\/p>\nHIS father was the most famous Balmain Tiger of them all – and now Mitchell Pearce may follow in his footsteps and finish his career at the Wests Tigers.<\/p>\n
Wide World of Sports has been told that a third party has approached Wests Tigers asking about the possibility of Pearce joining the club in 2022.<\/p>\n
If he did so, it would be a fairytale way to end his career – at the club where dad Wayne 'Junior' Pearce was a legend, playing for 11 seasons and nearly 200 games.<\/p>\n
Cronulla have already made overtures to Pearce, who is still signed at Newcastle for 2022 but on a smaller contract than his current deal.<\/p>\n
At 32, Pearce still has plenty of football in him and many at the Tigers believe he would be a better chance than Luke Brooks to guide the club to finals footy.<\/p>\n

The Knights want to retain Pearce, but offered him only a one-year extension rather than the two seasons he was after, prompting speculation about his future.<\/p>\n
A former team-mate of Wayne Pearce – who was also the inaugural coach of the Wests Tigers in 2000 – approached the club on behalf of the ex-NSW Origin halfback.<\/p>\n
The player, who asked not to be named, said he was met with a warm reception and the club is considering its options.<\/p>\n
Cronulla remain keen on Pearce, who is close to incoming coach Craig Fitgibbon.<\/p>\n
But Matt Moylan's return to form in recent weeks, coupled with the signing of Storm utility Nicho Hynes, gives the Sharks other options for next season.<\/p>\n
