West Coast<\/a> young gun Oscar Allen is the latest AFL star to open up on the sickening social media abuse he received from fans, labelling the treatment "just not acceptable".<\/p>\n

Allen, who recently re-signed with the club, was left concussed after a heavy fall in the first half of the Eagles' Round 11 loss to Essendon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old's concussion was so severe that he remained groggy in the Eagles' rooms and subsequently missed his team's win over Carlton due to the AFL's concussion protocols.<\/p>\n

"My partner came into the rooms. I could barely remember her. I could barely remember my Mum," he told Mix 94.5 radio.<\/p>\n

"Didn't know where I was (or) what I was doing. It's a pretty traumatic experience."<\/p>\n

If the trauma of suffering a concussion was not bad enough, Allen was horrifically abused on social media by a fan who had gambled on the match.<\/p>\n

"After the game \u2013 a pretty bad concussion, didn't have much recollection of it, pretty scary experience \u2013 I've got the old: 'You f—–g piece of s–t you completely f—-d my multi because you didn't kick a goal, honestly die break your neck' \u2013 which is not great," Allen told West Coast's Coast to Coast<\/em> podcast.<\/p>\n

"Lucky I'm relatively thick-skinned, but that's just not acceptable.<\/p>\n

"There's been a lot of it in recent years with racial images being sent to Indigenous players, but that's another form of hate which I don't think is acceptable and I think everyone would agree it's not really something you should be sending to someone after the game."<\/p>\n

Allen and Eagles teammate Hamish Brayshaw claimed that most of the abuse is centred around fans and gambling.<\/p>\n

"It's just something that should be stamped out, Brayshaw said. <\/p>\n

"We always say gamble responsibly, but a lot of it's to do with gambling. Blokes will message players all the time saying 'you ruined my multi'."<\/p>\n

"It's pretty embarrassing," Allen added. "I don't understand what you think you're getting from it. You're pretty much just embarrassing yourself. I'm not a huge fan of it.<\/p>\n

"It's one of the reasons why a lot of people in the AFL industry aren't keen to open themselves up. <\/p>\n

\"Mitch<\/p>\n

"They're not keen to show who they really are on social media or they're not keen to express themselves because Australians as a society of pretty close-minded I dare say and if you come out the norm, you get whacked pretty quickly by random people who know nothing about you."<\/p>\n

The abuse Allen received after suffering a concussion follows Geelong star Mitch Duncan copping the same shocking treatment after his own concussion against Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Richmond defender Dylan Grimes was also subjected to social media abuse<\/a> last season, with Victoria Police arresting a 54-year-old man and charging him with stalking.<\/p>\n
