Andrew Johns<\/a> has questioned the merits of the Cronulla Sharks letting Shaun Johnson<\/a> walk, suggesting that star signing Nicho Hynes isn't a suitable halfback.<\/p>\n

Johnson was one of three Sharks to be told that his services would not be required beyond 2021, after Cronulla secured the signature of Hynes on a $1.8 million deal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi playmaker starred for Cronulla last before an Achilles injury halted his run of form, with the club now baulking at his reported asking price of $1.2 million for a two-year deal.<\/p>\n

Johnson's impending exit seemingly opens the door for Hynes to partner Matt Moylan in the halves, but Johns questioned whether the No.7 jersey was the best fit for the 24-year-old.<\/p>\n

"You don't see other players go on from the Storm and kick on, so that's the challenge for Nicho," Johns told Wide World of Sports' Immortal Behaviour<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I don't see Nicho has a halfback. If it was my decision, I'd have Johnson at halfback and and Nicho at five-eighth and Will Kennedy at fullback.<\/p>\n

"Nicho's bigger-bodied and defends okay and the way they play nowadays, five-eighth and fullback is very similar.<\/p>\n

"I don't see Nicho as a halfback, I see him as a deputy, he's not the sheriff."<\/p>\n

The Sharks' Hynes coup was revealed earlier this week after the Storm utility had drawn interest from a number of clubs, including the NZ Warriors and the Brisbane Broncos.<\/p>\n

Hynes has deputised in both the fullback and halfback role this season for the Storm, covering for the injuries to Ryan Papenhuyzen and Cameron Munster.<\/p>\n

Since coming into the starting lineup back in Round Seven, Hynes has notched 12 try assists and 10 line-breaks through his past seven games.<\/p>\n

He will join the Sharks, who this season are currently sitting 12th on the ladder with just four wins to their name.<\/p>\n
