{"id":78935,"date":"2021-06-01T10:44:09","date_gmt":"2021-06-01T10:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=78935"},"modified":"2021-06-01T12:00:24","modified_gmt":"2021-06-01T12:00:24","slug":"maroons-bracing-for-brutal-ponga-blow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=78935","title":{"rendered":"Maroons bracing for brutal Ponga blow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/nrl\/queensland-maroons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" title=\"The Queensland Maroons\">The Queensland Maroons<\/a> are bracing for star fullback Kalyn Ponga to be officially ruled out of the June 9 Origin series opener tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>While Ponga has publicly claimed he&#x27;s &quot;ticking boxes&quot; in order to be fit for Game I next week, a report by the Courier-Mail claims Maroons coach Paul Green is expecting the fullback to be ruled out tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old will undergo a series of tests tomorrow on a groin complaint that kept him out of Newcastle&#x27;s clash against Manly on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Ponga didn&#x27;t take part in a fan event at Bundaberg today after being forced to stay behind in camp to receive treatment on his groin.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"3d80b1f2-67df-4ebf-b859-b7ec4151e0df\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/3d80b1f2-67df-4ebf-b859-b7ec4151e0df\" alt=\"Kalyn Ponga\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#x27;s expected Valentine Holmes will be the replacement fullback, which will pave the way for Kyle Feldt to make his Origin debut on the wing.<\/p>\n<p>Ponga on Monday said he felt good about his chances to be fit in time for next week&#x27;s clash.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I&#x27;m pretty confident.
