It was an unhappy day two for Australia at Roland Garros, with a quartet of Aussies bowing out – most notably with Jordan Thompson losing his opening round match in four sets to Spain's Jaume Munar.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old took the first set in a tie-breaker before being blown off the court in the second, and eventually losing in four. <\/p>\n

The world number 64, who reached the fourth round at the US Open last year, couldn't capitalise on several decent opportunities in the second tie-breaker of the match in the third set, before a solitary break of serve in the fourth was enough to seal his fate. <\/p>\n

The 27-year-old departed just hours after John Millman was forced to withdraw right before his first-round matchup, citing a back injury<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Qualifier Storm Sanders lost her match against highly-rated Belgian Elise Mertens, and Sydney wildcard Chris O'Connell battled back from two sets down against American Tommy Paul before losing the decider 10-8.<\/p>\n

Day three will hopefully be better for the down under contingent, with Ash Barty, Alex De Minaur, Alexei Popyrin, Astra Sharma, and James Duckworth all in action. <\/p>\n
