Australia's John Millman<\/a> has withdrawn from Roland-Garros<\/a> due to a back injury, with the decision coming so late that his first-round opponent did not know until he reached the court. <\/p>\n

Millman was drawn to face Italy's Gianluca Mager, but pulled out at the last moment, with German lucky loser Peter Gojowczyk his replacement in the men's singles draw.<\/p>\n

Mager strolled out onto the court expecting to face Millman, but was left waiting for the missing Australian for several minutes, before Gojowczyk walked out to face him.<\/p>\n

Millman's last second absence left Australian tennis great Todd Woodbridge<\/a> stunned on Nine's coverage of Roland-Garros.<\/p>\n

"That is devastating," he said.<\/p>\n

"We know that John was practicing incredibly well and I'm sure that he would've done everything in his power to be out on court, but unfortunately couldn't make it. <\/p>\n

"It comes as a shock to us and it would come as a big shock to his opponent. I've actually never seen that happen where a lucky loser has walked out onto the court and the opponent had no idea that that was going to happen."<\/p>\n

"John's opponent looked like he had no idea and you saw him talk to the umpire and the referee and he didn't know what was going on," fellow tennis great Jelena Dokic addied.<\/p>\n

"For John, it's so unfortunate. He would have tried to do everything possible to get out there and play, he's such a great fighter and competitor, so obviously there's something that happened."<\/p>\n
