Eighth Immortal Andrew Johns has put a line through the Canberra Raiders' season after a 44-16 loss to a severely depleted Roosters outfit was just the latest chapter in a grim 2021 campaign.<\/a><\/p>\n

Just days after releasing English halfback George Williams from his contract in a messy exit saga<\/a>, the Raiders fell to their seventh loss from their last eight games, starting hot but getting blasted by the Tricolours in a forgettable second half at Central Coast Stadium.<\/p>\n

After the game, coach Ricky Stuart insisted in his post-match press conference that despite appearances, the squad remained a tight-knit unit.<\/p>\n

"I think we showed you when we got to the game that there was a lot of energy and good play," Stuart said.<\/p>\n

\"NRL<\/p>\n

"But it [Williams' exit'] hasn't [affected us]. It didn't affect because the boys got here, they were upbeat."<\/p>\n

But speaking on Wide World of Sports' The Final Whistle<\/em>, Broncos legend Darren Lockyer believed there was more going on behind the scenes than Stuart was letting on.<\/p>\n

"They do look like a fractured club at the moment, they're not playing with any purpose," Lockyer said.<\/p>\n

"How you get the players back? It's not easy. You either lock yourself in the room and have a massive honesty session. That's the only way to get through it."<\/p>\n

Johns on the other hand was more focused on the impact of Williams' exit, and its consequences for the Raiders' premiership, let alone, their finals hopes.<\/p>\n

"Definitely [can draw a line through their season], there's some dramas there," Johns said.<\/p>\n

"Everyone knows what's happening with George Williams wanting to go home, and it looks like there's a real split in the camp. It's a real tough one.<\/p>\n

"There's a part of me that says 'you signed a contract, you know where you're going, you've got to see it out'. But when someone talks about mental health, it's a really tough one because everyone has to sit back and take a breath.<\/p>\n

"But what we saw the other night, considering the players that were out for the Roosters. The Roosters just wiped them. Some dramas down there in Canberra for sure."<\/p>\n
