Collingwood's<\/a> horror season has gone from bad to worse, with superstar ruckman Brodie Grundy<\/a> suffering what appears to be a neck injury.<\/p>\n

Grundy was subbed out of the match against Geelong<\/a> late in the third quarter, after going down following a marking contest at the MCG.<\/p>\n

The Cats won by 10 points, 8.13 (61) to 6.15 (51), but all the focus was on the Magpies star.<\/p>\n

Grundy landed on his right forearm after the challenge from Geelong's Rhys Stanley, with the 27-year-old unable to carry on. Replays showed Grundy's head jerked back after what seemed to be accidental contact from Stanley.<\/p>\n

The All-Australian was immediately taken out of the match.<\/p>\n

He was taken to the Epworth Hospital for precautionary scans on his neck, although the club says he's "doing OK".<\/p>\n

"It looked as if he had referred pain down the arm," said three-time premiership player Jonathan Brown on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"I thought he may have hurt his AC joint or maybe his shoulder, the way it jammed down, but it is a neck injury, so hopefully that will be OK."<\/p>\n

Concerningly for Grundy, it's not the first time he's suffered a neck injury. In 2015 he spent two weeks in a neck brace after a training injury.<\/p>\n

"Brodie had his head wrenched back and pinched a nerve in his neck," coach Nathan Buckley said.<\/p>\n

"It presented as a stinger down his right arm, but the doctor was concerned about nerve damage.<\/p>\n

"He's at hospital having a scan. Not being able to complete the game was a concern."<\/p>\n

In a nightmare afternoon for the Magpies, they kicked just one goal in the opening three quarters of the match. At one point they had a single six-pointer and a whopping 14 behinds.<\/p>\n

They rallied in the final quarter but they'd given Geelong too much of a head start, as the Magpies slumped to their ninth loss in 11 matches.<\/p>\n

It was the first time in 116 years that Collingwood failed to kick a goal in the first half at the MCG, and the final margin of 10 points flattered the Magpies, with the Cats doing enough to win and no more.<\/p>\n
