So perfect was the Maroons skipper's public retort to Gallen who had branded Queensland's stitched together squad the worst in history<\/a>, that it went down as the latest chapter in the iconic series' fierce rivalry.<\/p>\n As both states prepare to do battle once more ahead of the series opener on June 9, both Gallen and Cherry-Evans reflected on 2020's wild series, making amends on WWOS Radio 2GB with some light-hearted banter.<\/p>\n GALLEN:<\/strong> "Can we sort this out? I never said they were the worst team in Origin history. It was said by a reporter. And yeah, I jumped on board because I'm from NSW. And I'm jumping on board again. One in a row, Daly Cherry-Evans. One in a row. That's all you're getting."<\/p>\n<\/p>\n DCE: "<\/strong>I knew where it came from and I knew Gal was just sort of getting on the back of that Origin rivalry. I'm sure Gal has spoken about it, we've got a great relationship. We've had a lot of fun times together on tour."<\/p>\n GALLEN: "<\/strong>No, no, no, no hang on. Let me tell you the first tour I went on with Daly Cherry-Evans. We were on the drink. I won't tell all the story. But we were on the drink, and Daly comes up to me and goes 'Gal, I love Origin and I like winning. But we don't like winning every year'."<\/p>\n "I'm like, here is this kid, oh my god. Give it to me. But we did have a good relationship. He's a good fella."<\/p>\n DCE: "<\/strong>I was a bit cheeky early on. It was good fun. But Gal definitely sorted me out, don't worry about that."<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Cherry-Evans revealed the timing of his iconic Origin winner's speech just "felt right" after Wayne Bennett's Maroons played around with the idea of being 'the worst team ever' in camp ahead of the Game Three decider.<\/p>\n "We were obviously speaking about it in camp and playing around with it a bit, what was being said about us," Cherry-Evans told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n "I wouldn't say it just came to me in the heat of the moment but I guess the timing of it just felt right."<\/p>\n "I'm grateful I got the opportunity to come into that rep camp and be a part of what was a really special win for Queensland.
