Broncos great Darren Lockyer said<\/a> that there was concern about whether Hynes would be as good at Brisbane as he'd become in a champion Storm team. Johns echoed that sentiment, saying that only two players had left Melbourne early in their careers and genuinely starred elsewhere.<\/p>\n "The only worrying thing for me, I only see two players to have really kicked on after leaving Melbourne and going to another club," Johns said on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth<\/em>.<\/p>\n "Israel was one, Israel Folau when he went to Brisbane. And the other one's obviously Greg [Inglis, at South Sydney]. Any other players who have just gone [up]?"<\/p>\n Hynes is a fullback who can play five-eighth. He is shaping as a key recruitment for Brisbane, who are in dire need of more playmakers.<\/p>\n "He's a good fullback. He's tall, he's fast, good ball-player. Brisbane need a fullback," NSW coach Brad Fittler said on Freddy and the Eighth<\/em>.<\/p>\n "I think it's more important to have a good fullback than it is a good five-eighth. The fullback is invaluable."<\/p>\n Johns added: "Especially if you're signing with Brisbane, Brisbane need a fullback, desperately."<\/p>\n The Broncos signed halfback Brodie Croft from Melbourne at the start of last season, a recruitment that so far hasn't worked out. However, Croft had already been dropped twice by the Storm as crucial times, so 'buyer beware' signs were ignored. Hynes appears on a strong upwards trajectory, with the bonus of being able to play multiple backline positions to offset any signing risk.<\/p>\n Johns said that Hynes would be taking a punt by leaving the powerful Storm system but the 24-year-old appears to have little choice, given that he wants to be a regular starting player.
