There has been no more talked about footballer over the last 20 years – now Cameron Smith is going to do the talking – he has joined Wide World of Sports as an NRL<\/a> expert commentator.<\/p>\n

Just weeks after landing Sonny Bill Williams<\/a>, the biggest cross-code name in rugby league and union, Nine has struck, signing Immortal-in-waiting Smith.<\/p>\n

The league world has wondered what his next move would be – with murmurs around a late season cameo kicking around – but the only time we are going to see him on the field is with a microphone in-hand.<\/p>\n

Smith excelled in an Origin TV hosting and sideline appearance late last year, showcasing himself as a natural.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nine are clearly assembling a team that will make them the premier broadcaster as they move towards the next broadcast deal.<\/p>\n

Smith's signature continues Nine's association with the best experts in the game, including Phil Gould, Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler, Johnathan Thurston, Billy Slater and Paul Gallen, as well as long-time Nine stars Paul Vautin and Peter Sterling.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Smith, Thurston and Slater formed the spine of the most dominant Queensland team in history<\/a>, with eight series wins in a row between 2006-2013, and there is no doubt the trio will combine just as well on air.<\/p>\n

"I'm excited to be joining Nine's Wide World of Sports and being a part of the biggest rugby league matches of the year, including State of Origin and the NRL grand final," Smith said.<\/p>\n

"I grew up listening to Ray Warren, so to now join him in the commentary box for these history making moments is surreal and very humbling.<\/p>\n

'"JT and Billy have transitioned seamlessly since stepping off the field and I can't wait to join them at Nine. It's going to be a big challenge, but I'm looking forward to starting this next phase of my career."<\/p>\n
