{"id":71371,"date":"2021-05-15T11:01:34","date_gmt":"2021-05-15T11:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=71371"},"modified":"2021-05-15T13:03:51","modified_gmt":"2021-05-15T13:03:51","slug":"brumbies-suffer-another-heartbreaking-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=71371","title":{"rendered":"Brumbies suffer another heartbreaking defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Crusaders have survived an almighty scare to make it three from three for Kiwi teams over the Aussie counterparts to start the trans-Tasman Super Rugby competition.<\/p>\n<p>Their tense 31-29 win against the Brumbies in Christchurch on Saturday night was far from pretty, and required a missed conversion after the hooter from pivot Noah Lolesio, but it was a competition-opening win nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>Moments after No 8 Rob Valetini scored with time almost up, Lolesio dragged his difficult conversion attempt wide-left as the Crusaders escaped with four points in what was hooker Codie Taylor&#x27;s 100th match for the franchise.<\/p>\n<p>They sure nearly coughed up a 31-17 lead, after loose forwards Brendon O&#x27;Connor and Cullen Grace crashed over in the final quarter to seemingly kick clear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/stan.com.au\/sport?utm_source=wwos&amp;utm_medium=partner&amp;utm_campaign=rugby_article\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"The only place rugby fans can watch every match is Stan Sport. set piece wasn&#x27;t as dominant as usual, but their defence was at times super, and Banks and wing Solomone Kata were a real handful.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/login.nine.com.au\/login?client_id=wwos&amp;redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwwos.nine.com.au&amp;newsletter=true\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"For a daily dose of the best of the breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports, subscribe to our newsletter by clicking here!\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em><strong>For a daily dose of the best of the breaking news and exclusive content from Wide World of Sports, subscribe to our newsletter by clicking here!<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"91e66777-6d1e-4257-8e01-5e8f54608010\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/91e66777-6d1e-4257-8e01-5e8f54608010\" alt=\"\" data-width=\"5296\" data-height=\"3531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the Addington air wasn&#x27;t so frigid some punters might have dozed off in the opening 20 minutes, given the stop-start nature of the contest.<\/p>\n<p>The shambolic scrums were the primary factor, as the opening quarter was dominated by referee Paul Williams having a pig of a time attempting to sort out the respective front rows.<\/p>\n<p>He eventually lost his patience after awarding a bevy of free kicks, and instead started dishing penalties, three to the Crusaders.<\/p>\n<p>Brumbies halfback Ryan Lonergan&#x27;s hesitancy to feed the scrum didn&#x27;t help matters, especially as the Crusaders started getting a shunt on.<\/p>\n<p>There was still something for the 11,000 odd punters to cheer for outside of Blackadder&#x27;s fourth minute try, starting with some dazzling Richie Mo&#x27;unga magic moments after Brumbies prop Scott Sio had bashed his way over the line to put the visitors 7-5 up after 27 minutes.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6254328477001\" src=\"https:\/\/vms-network-images-prod.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com\/2021\/05\/358506\/pickerImage.jpg\" alt=\"Banks&#x27; scorching solo effort\" data-vms-id=\"ref:ckopjyoa800190gmlga7q5p5c\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Much to coach Dan McKellar&#x27;s disgust, the Brumbies coughed up the restart, before Mo&#x27;unga made fools of three defenders from the resulting scrum to dash over.<\/p>\n<p>Form midfielder David Havili, surely one of the first names in Ian Foster&#x27;s All Blacks squad later this year, then picked off a sluggish Lonergan pass to bolt in from 40 odd metres.<\/p>\n<p>The Crusaders&#x27;
