Gold Coast Suns coach Stuart Dew<\/a> says his side would have "lost some trust" after a disastrous 73-point defeat at the hands of cross-town rivals Brisbane. <\/p>\n

After a competitive opening term, the Suns allowed 14 consecutive Brisbane goals between the second and third quarters as the Lions ran out 19. 10. (124) to 7. 9. (51) winners<\/a> at Metricon Stadium.<\/p>\n

It was a disappointing outing for a young Suns side, who had put together a positive two weeks of football in the lead-up, including a win over Collingwood at the MCG<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dew labelled the stretch between the second and third quarters "unacceptable" as he urged his side to respond to some honest feedback.<\/p>\n

"Clearly unacceptable. We had 10 guys with one or less tackles so we failed to put pressure on the opposition to what the competition demands," he said.<\/p>\n

"We got what we deserved, particularly in that third quarter. Brisbane are strong, but they pushed us around tonight. <\/p>\n

"We let ourselves down and definitely would've lost some trust within the competition, our supporters. <\/p>\n

"We're working hard on building consistency, but that just fell away tonight. We have to take it personal, we failed to compete. <\/p>\n

"It was different to the Bulldogs game, we felt we opened the gate today." <\/p>\n

Dew's comments came after Hawthorn great Jason Dunstall noted a lack of spirit on the part of the Suns as the Lions stacked on goal after goal through the middle quarters.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes as a coach, you can look at the magnetic board and it's not going to tell you much," he said at three-quarter-time on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"To me, it's effort and discipline and desperation. they're pretty basic things. There's no problem if you're outskilled – if you don't quite have the quality and class of the opposition.<\/p>\n

"But you should never, ever be inferior in terms of effort, discipline and commitment. And they have been in this game."<\/p>\n

Adding insult to injury for the Suns, Jarryd Lyons, who Gold Coast delisted, led all players with 37 disposals, while Lions skipper Dayne Zorko added 34 touches and a goal.<\/p>\n

The Suns will face a stiff task in Round 10 when they face a high-flying Geelong side at GMHBA Stadium, while Brisbane will host Richmond at the Gabba.<\/p>\n
