North Queensland playmaker Scott Drinkwater has fought back tears after he was overcome with emotion following a gallant Cowboys comeback that ultimately fell short to the Roosters. <\/p>\n
Drinkwater was instrumental in Saturday night's Magic Round thriller, scoring two tries and inspiring the Cowboys to within two-points of comeback against the Tricolours after coughing up at 18-point deficit to start the game. <\/p>\n
For all their effort, the Cowboys would eventually unravel in an eventual 30-16 loss, and an emotional Drinkwater wore the blame squarely on his shoulders.<\/p>\n
"We were down by six with about 18 to go and I took a short side on down there and probably threw a pass that missed," Drinkwater told Nine.<\/p>\n

"I probably didn't have to throw that, but I did and that was the last chance we got in their half.<\/p>\n
"Coming down here the next set we get put in the bin and since then we were just coming out of our back end. A little bit of game management there knowing to hold the ball, and if I don't throw that pass we're still down there, still in it by six, so I'm disappointed.<\/p>\n
"We allowed too many points too easily. A couple of them were training tries.<\/p>\n
"We've got to stop starting slow and start playing like we have been 20-25 minutes in.<\/p>\n

"They're a top team, they're physical and they don't give you an easy let up."<\/p>\n
It could have been a cruisy night for the Tricolours after racing out to an 18-point lead in an all-out first-half blitz at Suncorp Stadium.\n<\/p>\n
But a costly sin-binning of Sitili Tupouniua opened the flood gates for the Cowboys who capitalised on their extra man to run in two quick-fire tries before half-time.\n<\/p>\n
It would be the same story returning from the sheds when Drinkwater linked up with Valentine Holmes for a stunning breakaway try.\n<\/p>\n
Having run in three unanswered four-pointers, the Cowboys suddenly found themselves on the verge of a comeback worthy of Magic Round's epic proportions.\n<\/p>\n
With the pressure cranked up at 18-16, the Cowboys had the run of play until the Roosters did what they do best and worked their way back into the fray through unwavering defence.<\/p>\n
