The Wests Tigers have secured vital points to keep their season from slipping into oblivion following an impressive 36-18 win over the Newcastle Knights.<\/a><\/p>\n

The Tigers were at their try-scoring best in the Magic Round opener bagging six to blow the Novocastrians off the field and leave coach Adam O'Brien with some soul-searching to do.<\/p>\n

While the Knights were without superstars Kalyn Ponga and Mitchell Pearce, it was a clinical performance from Michael Maguire's men who will take a lot of confidence away from their trip to Brisbane.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the match, a tactical shake-up that saw Adam Doueihi moved to the centres and Moses Mbye come in to partner Luke Brooks in the halves raised eyebrows, particularly in light of Doueihi's strong performances week-in week-out.<\/p>\n

But the youngster proved he can do it all, starring in the No.3 with two tries to his name and kicking all but one conversion from the tee.<\/p>\n

Fox League commentator Braith Anasta labelled the spine switch a "masterstroke".<\/p>\n

"He's put his ego aside," Anasta said of Doueihi stepping aside for Mbye.<\/p>\n

Much of the work was done for the Sydneysiders in a first-half blitz that saw them head into the break with a 24-4 lead. The near-insurmountable lead was enough to see the Tigers comfortably play out the match and pile on two more tries by the final whistle.<\/p>\n

In perhaps not the best endorsement for Magic Round, a total of four players were sent to the bin, with Tex Hoy, Joe Ofahengaue, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Moses Mbye all falling victim to the NRL's crackdown on dangerous play.<\/p>\n

The win sees the Tigers move level with the Raiders on the NRL ladder, just one win out of the top-eight in a race that is already heating up for seventh and eighth.<\/p>\n
