NSW Origin coach Brad Fittler<\/a> says he has been impressed by both Jarome Luai<\/a> and Nathan Cleary<\/a>'s unselfishness as he closes in on the deadline to select his squad.<\/p>\n

Luai and Cleary have been at the heart of Penrith's dominant start to the season and the pair are the popular pick to start as NSW's halves pairing at the MCG for the Origin opener.<\/p>\n

While Cleary has been a mainstay in Fittler's Origin squads, Luai could make his debut this season, and the Blues coach praised the duo's team-first mentality.<\/p>\n

"There's a lot to like about what they're all doing out there," Fittler told 2GB's Wide World of Sports Radio.<\/p>\n

\"Jarome<\/p>\n

"The fact is, Jarome and Nathan, whether it's because they've played with each other for so long through junior football or not, they complement each other, there's no ego in anything they do.<\/p>\n

"When one kicks, the other chases, when one runs, the other supports, and that doesn't always happen.<\/p>\n

"When you look at any sport and any team, it's always about putting the team first. This is the greatest example of that happening."<\/p>\n

Despite the praised lavished on him by Fittler, Luai himself admitted that he had some improving to do, but said he would be thrilled to represent NSW.<\/p>\n

\"Jarome<\/p>\n

"That would be awesome," he told Wide World of Sports Radio.<\/p>\n

"I've got a lot of improving to do and the Origin arena is a different beast, so I've just got to keep improving every week and playing well with the boys.<\/p>\n

"If I do get that opportunity then it would mean just as much to (my family) as it does to me."<\/p>\n

The 2021 State of Origin series will get underway with the series opener at the MCG on on Wednesday, June 9.<\/p>\n
